If walls could talk, 3J’s Family Restaurant would echo with the clatter of woks, the aroma of fried dishes, and the laughter of a family who turned their dream into a table set for all. This story is about Jay and his two children, the three J’s who gave life to what is now a dining landmark in the south.
The journey began back in 1995, when Jay opened a modest snack on Royal Road Baramia in Rose-Belle. What started small quickly became a local favourite, and in 2000, his son Jimmy stepped in to manage the business. Sixteen years later, in 2016, the family took a bold step by opening a full-fledged restaurant in the same location, just upstairs from the original snack. Today, Jimmy runs the restaurant with his wife and children, keeping the family tradition alive. Together, they’ve built not just a place to eat, but a destination for gatherings. The restaurant has grown large enough to host events of all kinds, from receptions and anniversaries to corporate functions, and they’ve also added a catering service, offering buffet-style dining both in-house and outdoors. Reservations are welcome, and the space is curated for clients who want both good food and a memorable setting
The food is the heartbeat here. Crisp bites of fish, chicken, squid, or prawns kick things off, alongside samoussas, halfmoons, and pies that disappear faster than they’re served. Then come the mains: wok-tossed noodles, fried rice rich with flavor, paella that marries the Mediterranean with the Mauritian, Thai-style stir fries, sizzling grills, and delicacies like octopus, lamb, and even venison. The snack keeps things lively from 10h30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Sunday, while the dining restaurant opens its doors Tuesday to Sunday, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. It’s a rhythm the Rose-Belle community has been keeping time with for over 30 years.
All these years, clients have been part of this journey, from the humble snack days to the thriving restaurant it is today. And standing quietly but firmly behind this growth is MauBank, a partner who believed in the family’s vision, providing financing solutions that turned ideas into reality. With their support, Jimmy and his family are already preparing to open a brand-new restaurant, adding yet another layer to this flavourful legacy.
From father to son, from small beginnings to big dreams, 3J’s has always been about more than food. It’s about family, community, and the taste of perseverance… and if you ask us, that’s the true recipe of 3J’s: a family’s dream served on every plate, and a community that never stopped believing in it.
